Nurturing the Recovery of Global Trips

"In Rome during the 1970s, I once stopped at a cafe where the proprietor kept a parrot on a perch by the bar. When the parrot abruptly uttered a sentence in Italian, I was utterly flabbergasted.

I've always recalled that anecdote, with some embarrassment, as a sort of personal cultural watershed. Rube from Philadelphia that I was, it had simply never struck me until then that a parrot would speak anything but English.From that point on, I realized that the world, experienced, would never accommodate even the silliest prejudices."
