Tourists show little concern
Despite threats from Maoist rebels to ambush visitors, many people come to shop and party
KATHMANDU, Nepal - On the fourth day of the rebel blockade of Nepal's ancient capital, the Ram Shreshtra band rocked the crowd at the Red Onion Bar here with jumpy covers of "Mustang Sally" and "Jailhouse Rock." Tourists shopped for trinkets, trekking gear and hashish. And top officers of the Royal Nepal Army played a golf tournament on the military's private 18-hole course.
Hardly the signs of a city under siege, but that is what Kathmandu is.
