October 21, 2004Road worker gets a wild ride on car
Man carried on hood of car A road worker redirecting traffic experienced the most terrifying ride of his life when a motorist refused to take a minor detour around a construction site early this week. As co-owner of a paving company that regularly tears up Toronto streets, Rocky Furfari said he's used to receiving the occasional death threat from impatient drivers. But until Monday afternoon, no one had ever tried to make good on the threat. "He just hit the gas," said Furfari, a 38-year-old father of two, who was carried on the hood of the car and forced to hang on for life as the driver, who is still at large, raced from the scene. "I thought I was going to be dead." "I was begging him to stop," said the shaken Furfari. "I had forced my fingers under the hood; that was the only thing keeping me on." More diversion here Comments
