To win back visitor confidence, TAT sends paper birds to restore peace in the region The ongoing unrest has driven tourists from the three southern provinces of Thailand and it seems nothing can done to stop their exodus. Tourists from neighbouring countries who usually flock there at this time of the year, have now virtually disappeared. Hotels are closing down due to loss of tourists and the business they generated. Both leisure and corporate travellers have cancelled their trips to the region. Who would actually dare to go there, if not the prime minister? Initially, the Tourism Authority of Thailand's (TAT) southern region office tried to salvage the deteriorating situation by organising trade shows to tell tourists that things weren't that bad after all in the South, but the tourists were not convinced as death toll kept mounting.
