Jumbos get too close at Auckland Airport
A close encounter between two 747s at Auckland International Airport is being investigated by safety authorities.

Transport Accident Investigation Commission chief accident investigator John Mockett said a Qantas plane from Sydney was coming in to land when air traffic controllers noticed an unidentified aircraft heading toward its approach path.

The Qantas plane was ordered to abort the landing and pull up.

At the same time, an Air New Zealand plane from Melbourne was descending.
