KATHMANDU: Women with tell-tale chudas and men dressed in shiny wedding suits used to swarm Nepal-bound planes. Now, discounted rates of just Rs 3,500 for a round trip find few takers among honeymoon couples.

Kathmandu’s streets are no longer teeming with Indians looking for bargains in “original imitation antiques”. Thamel, the popular hippie haunt, a favourite with Indian college kids looking for green heaven or marijuana, momos and a Thai massage, is deserted.
