Machinists back possible United strike

Another United Airlines union held out the threat of a labor walkout Wednesday, while local travel agents expressed hope all sides could work out compromises to avert strikes and save the bankrupt carrier.
The airline's baggage handlers and ticket agents, represented by the International Association of Machinists, overwhelmingly gave their union the go-ahead to call a strike if the company scuttles their labor contract.
