Rewiring Tricks for Your Brain to Stay Calm in Difficult Situations

Nowadays, regardless of age, every second person is stressed out. Setbacks in life encompass you in self-doubts with a feeling of shame, defeat, uselessness, anger, guilt, loss and sadness which indeed deteriorate your health. If you introspect the adversity or difficulty, you can uncover a higher purpose and deeper meaning attached to it. Problems are common in everyone™s life, but how one deals with it, makes a difference. Problems/pains are not stop signs, rather they are guidelines for the fresh beginning(s). The bad situation in your life is a gentle reminder for you to phase out the negativity and keep moving forward by remaining motivated and positive. The good news is that you have the full controlling power to retrain your brain for a calmer life. Here are some of the empowering tips to cope up with the harrowing situations:

1)      Remove yourself from negative and stressful sitches: You can simply de-stress yourself by letting go of the grudges, dropping negative perception for yourself or others, cutting out tolerations, saying ˜No™ to toxic relationships, culling out your clutter, committing to a positive attitude, balancing out the work and play, refocusing on your thoughts, practicing activeness, going out for a walk/jog/run/shopping, playing music, dancing, practicing breathing exercises and indulging in new/productive activities.

2)      Develop a coping strategy: Firstly, learn not to react immediately. Before losing out your cool, just give a considerate thought and ask yourself, will this really matter to you a year from now? Not everything needs your attention and emotions. But also, if the situation is quite grave in nature, it™s good to let out your emotions. Reach out to your support system to discuss your situation or pen down your thoughts in the journal. Set a timetable for yourself and get engrossed in fruitful activities as it will help you in diverting your focus in the right direction. Make sure to take care of your body, mind and soul. Herein, meditation can help you in providing insight into your future course of action. Be aware of your emotional state and try to put yourself in someone else™s shoes before reacting.

3)      Reframe the situation: Make sure to reframe the negative thoughts as positive affirmations/statements. Nurture a healthy sense of self-worth as it will help you to stay resilient during your tough times. Try to find out the latent meaning in your current struggle. Think of the opportunities you have to be brave and how can you grow from it?; what is the persisting difficulty trying to teach you?; what can you learn from it?; how stiffly you can overcome the tough phase?, and how can you help/motivate/boost up the spirit of others (who are also facing such turbulent times)?

4)      Learn to enjoy your own company: People often get bored alone, that implies that they rely on external sources for their happiness. While acknowledging the people around you, make sure to get some œME time to sincerely reflect upon yourself and your actions. Also, without relying on someone else, you can enjoy and cheer for yourself. It™s all in the head and your attitude that makes you or breaks you. It™s essential to have a harmonious relationship with yourself, henceforth, sometimes having alone time is fruitful (without hampering your social connections). Also, solo time generates creativity and deep focus, so taking out some time for yourself is perfectly fine.

5)      Adopting good habits: Make sure to set your environment that is conducive to your needs, develop a growth mindset, recognize your strengths, try something new every day, schedule your time in advance, get some fresh air, charge your focus, speed read, get adequate rest, consume healthy & well-balanced meals, meditate, exercise, practice kindness, perform activities that produce precise moments, manage your time effectively, say no to toxicity, empower yourself by reviewing your accomplishments, find time to detach from work, pay attention to the little things as it will help you in practicing mindfulness in your daily life and most importantly stop stress by laughing.

6)      Benefits of silence: Silence encourages mindfulness, promotes self-awareness, boosts creativity, stimulates brain cells, relieves stress, helps with information processing, improves sleep patterns, promotes productivity and enhances concentration. When you turn down the noise around/within you, you can hear wonderful things (be it nature™s beautiful song, wise advice(s), spiritual talks/boosters). Take a break from noisy technologies and irrelevant content consumption as it will add more clarity in your life, time to process your emotions, and help in making wise decisions. Unlock your latent potentials by setting up goals, working upon them and achieving the same. Try to be more realistic, rather than virtualistic. Spend time with your near-dear ones. It™s good to express oneself, but it is equally relevant to know when to keep quiet. Practice to be a good listener and speak out good/germane/sweet things so that when you speak, people would love to hear you.

7)      Set tech rules: There is a need for you to establish ground tech rules for yourself. Whatever you post leaves a digital footprint so make sure whatever you are posting is appropriate to share online. Set up a cell phone policy for yourself of no usage of the phone during meals, bedtime, study, working towards your goals and professional work. Try to do something that steals moments of you looking out to your phone.
